1. Why do I need a gym floor cover?
There are a number of reasons to get a gym floor covering. The biggest reasons are:
 | a) To turn your gymnasium into a multi-purpose facility
With a gym floor covering, you can hold events like dances, conferences and assemblies without fear of damaging your floor.
This can also allow you to create revenue by renting your gym out for these events.
b) To save money!
If you have events that are not athletic in nature, you will save money on refinishing costs and maintenance.
Furthermore, you will increase the life of your valuable hardwood floor.
Without a proper gym tarp, your floor will be susceptable to damage from dirt and pebbles on typical outdoor footwear, scuffs and markings from tables and chairs, and stains from spills.
c) To reduce downtime
Not only does maintenance and refinishing cost you money, it also makes your gym unusable while this work is being done.
By using a gymnasium floor cover, your gym will look like new for longer and your downtime will be minimized. |
2. Why do I need a gym floor cover storage rack?
Although gym floor coverings are often called gym floor tarps, there is a big difference between a proper floor cover and a lightweight plastic tarp.
Proper covers cannot be folded and stored because they are too heavy and will cause permanent creasing that can be an eyesore and a trip hazard when rolled back out.
Beware of companies that try to pawn off large sections as floor covers - you will not get the protection you need to save your hardwood floor from damage.
The industry standard is use 10' wide rolls that roll up neatly on a storage rack.
Covers stored in this manner can be used over and over again without causing creases in the fabric.
Another main reason why you need a storage system is because these rolls are heavy!
Our products are heavy-duty products... literally.
The average gym is 100' long and a 10' x 100' covering section can weigh from 110 - 210 lbs each for 16 oz./sqyd. and 30 oz./sqyd. respectively.
This sort of weight is best managed with a rack that is designed to hold and transport that weight with minimal effort.
Finally, Gym-Floor-Covers.com storage racks are just 34" wide and designed to fit through a standard man door.
This stacked roll arrangement will minimize the floor space used in your storage area by the covers.
3. Why do I need a power winder?
A power winder is not a necessity for your floor cover, but it can definitely make life easier on those handling it.
When starting to wind a roll onto the cart, there can be a great deal of force required to start winding the roll because of the friction of the cover on the ground, especially with long and heavy rolls.
Power winders reduce the possibility of repetitive stress injuries while reducing the labor required to store your covers.
Also, using a power winder typically speeds up the process of winding up rolls.
4. Why do I need seam tape?
Although our heavy duty gymnasium floor covers generally lie very flat due to their weight, taping the seams down with our specially designed seam tape will reduce the risk of tripping.
Seam tape will also stop spills from reaching the hardwood floor surface and stop chair and table legs from catching the seam as they are slid across the ground.
All tapes are not made equal and our tape is specially designed to work with our covering systems.
Unlike standard tapes, our superior strength seaming tape will not leave a sticky residue on the covering.
It is recommended that this tape is put down with our floor tape applicator.

9. Do I need a brush system for my storage rack?
No. There's a big difference between sweeping and simply dragging or pushing a broom across a floor.
When a broom is dragged or pushed across a floor it picks up only the coarsest objects in its path and leaves a large trail of dirt behind it.
Similarly, systems with brush attachments will only remove a portion of the dirt and leave the rest on your gym floor cover.
There is simply no substitute for sweeping the cover when you are done and cleaning with a damp mop.
Remember, that while our gym floor covers are bacteria, mold, and mildew resistant, you should always allow the cover to dry completely before rolling it up for storage.
